Hunter x Hunter main story focuses on a kid named Gon Freecss, who looking for his father Ging Freecss that everyone always told him that he is died long ago. One day Gon knew from his father pupil Kite that his father still alive and he is one of Legendary Hunter. Knowing that his father still alive Gon decided to parcipate in Hunter test, in order to follow his father path to become Hunter. In the Hunter test Gon meets and befriend with Killua Zoldyck, Kurapika and Leorio. After succes in test, Kurapika leaves to find his path become Blacklist Hunter and Leorio want to attend medical school. Gon and Killua decide to increase their power by participated at the Heaven Arena, a building with 251 floors where over 4000 fighters compete everyday in fighting turnaments. In that place they meet the master of Kung-Fu, wing, who teaches them how to use energy in our body to gain enormous power called Nen.

The story continue with reunites all the main character in the world largest auction that held in metropolis city called Yorknew City. Gon, Killua and Leorio trying to gain money to buy Greed Island, a video game that can help Gon find his father. And Kurapika decide to working as bodyguard of a girl who love to collect rare stuff especially for human organ. He also wants to revenge for his entire clan who sloughtered by Genei Ryodan (Phantom Troup), a gang that contist 13 extremely strong fighter. Genei Ryodan kill all of Kurapika clan to get their flaming eyes which will appear when they angry and remains eternally in the iris at the time they dead. Kurapika success kill one of them and and forcing their leader to follow his order not to use Nen Ever. Finally Gon and Killua find the Greed Island, it seems like magical video game that can sucks the players within. The mission of this game is to collect a number of cards, almost all in this game, from money to food can turn into cards. Inside this game Gon and Killua meets Biscuit Krueger, an experienced teacher of Nen who trains them. As their reward for winning the game, they allowed to take three cards to be used in the real world. And then, they using "Accompany Card" to go to a player under the username "ngig", who they believe to be Ging. However, it brings them to Kite instead.

Gon and Killua meet Kite, the Hunter who told Gon that his father still alive and the very first hunter in the manga. They help Kite investigate a giant insect limb, they find out it came from chimera ant, a big insect that devours other insects and animal, and then gives birth new species that have the charateristic of all the different insects and animals it has eaten. The limb is belongs to queen chimera that wash up on the shore of island nation called NGL (Neo Green Life) inhabited by neo uddite culture. She quickly spawn hundreds of offsprings by eating human that lived there and wipe out most of them before Gon, Killua and Kite get there. Then, the Queen dies when her womb ripped by Meryem, a chimera ant king who impatient waiting born in normal. Meryem and his Royal Guard attacked Republic of East Gorteau and begin the selection of humans who survive in Nen awakening process. This cause the death 99% human population in this area. Knowing this problem the Hunters mobilize quickly to stop Meryem Plan.
